Thermal Conditioning

Gas detectors are sensitive devices that can be affected by environmental conditions.  There are times when a gas sample to be analyzed exists in an environment with temperatures that are too extreme for direct sensor placement.  In some cases, extractive gas sampling is a better and more reliable method for the detection system.

MSA's new Application Note, Thermal Conditioning for Extracted Gas Samples, specifically discusses gas sample temperature conditioning and includes useful diagrams and examples for a better understanding of this topic:

  • Heat Radiating from Tube When Cooling is Required
  • Thermal Calculations for Sample Stream
  • Inner Air Temperature
  • Fluid Temperature vs. Distance From Inlet
