MSA recently received two reports of Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) in certain stainless steel snaphooks on MSA mechanicals.  There have been no reported injuries associated with these reports.  It is important to note that the stainless steel snaphooks used in production meet specifications and are acceptable to sell and use.

SCC can occur in metallic materials, including stainless steel, under certain, specific conditions.  This type of corrosion can have a significant impact on the strength of the metallic materials.  To highlight these conditions, and to reinforce the importance of following user instructions, MSA is issuing this new white paper: Stress Corrosion Cracking of Stainless Steel Snaphooks Used in Fall Protection Devices.
